“Little Mia” got to live her best life this summer!
Over the summer months, I prioritized “Little Mia’s” desire to just play and be creative. I’ve been lacking in that area lately. And I know, I dropped off the face of the earth-writing wise-which is a form of creativity. But I honestly think I needed time to just exist and be a human before coming back to writing.
Because for a while I was just letting life happen to me. The ups, the downs, and the “what the heck” moments. But this summer, the below activities really let me reset in preparation for the fall.
Activity 1: Tattoo from Aubin at Ritual Arts
I became a tatted girlie. I had been debating on getting a tattoo for a while and decided now was the time. So, I took a solo trip to Portland, partially planned and got the words “But What if I Fly” accompanied by an Eeyore looking at a butterfly. As an anxious girlie, I sometimes need reminders that things can go well. My spiraling thoughts aren’t always right. And I honestly love it.
Activity 2: Musicals at Oregon Shakespeare Festival
Fun fact about me is that I’m a live theatre girlie.
I love live theatre and will travel for it. So, after getting my tattoo in Portland, I continued me journey to Ashland, Oregon for their Oregon Shakespeare Festival. I saw Rent, The 3 Musketeers and Rome & Juliet. And I had no regrets! I took naps in between shows, explored the town and walked a lot.
Activity 3: Sol Blume Music Festival
Last but not least, I went to my first music festival in Sacramento, California. Sol Blume was a VIBE! Soul music with chill people and yummy snacks! What more could a girl ask for? Jessie Reyez, Teyana Taylor, Kehlani, Pink Sweat…and more. I was able to soak in the sun and do my own thing, which I don’t always get to do.
Overall
I am very happy with the decisions I made to let “Little Mia” rule my world for the summer. I went on all 3 activities by myself. And I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone.
Through these summer activities, I’ve learned that for me to live my best life, I have to let “Little Mia” be a part of my day-to-day shenanigans. Because she reminds me to have moments of fun and not just be a crusty-dusty work-a-holic.
So, I’m trying to bring that energy into this fall (which literally came out of nowhere). What activities are you looking forward to this fall?
I love this for you! Glad to see you smiling, coming a bit out of your comfort zone, and making conscious decisions to live in the moment.
My plans are to enjoy time with my newborn, hopefully travel to Michigan, Houston, and other places in between. I’m also hoping to transition into a new home soon his fall.
